Spotify’s offline mode is a Premium feature, and even then the songs only play inside the Spotify app. If you use the free plan, or you want a plain MP3 for a car stereo, a video edit or a workout player, here is how to save songs with Spot Downloader, without Premium and without logging in.
What you get
- An MP3 file at 128 kbps for each song, which plays on every device.
- The album cover embedded, so it looks right in music apps.
- A clean file name like “Artist - Title.mp3”.
Spotify’s own streams are encrypted and can only play in its app. Spot Downloader reads the song details from Spotify’s public catalogue, finds a matching recording and prepares it as an MP3. Very occasionally a different version (a remaster or live take) may be matched; the preview button helps you check before downloading.
Step 1: find the song
You have two ways:
- Search: type the song or artist into the box on Spot Downloader and press Search.
- Paste a link: in Spotify, tap ⋯ → Share → Copy link on a song, playlist, album or artist, and paste it in. See how to copy a Spotify link.
Step 2: preview and download
- Press ▶ on a cover to hear Spotify’s 30-second preview, if you want to be sure it’s the right version.
- Press Download next to the song.
- A new song takes a few seconds to prepare; then your browser saves the MP3.
For a whole playlist or album, open it and press Download all; songs are saved one after another. The tool site explains this in how to download a Spotify playlist.
Step 3: find your songs
- Android: in Downloads; most music players pick them up automatically.
- iPhone: in Files → Downloads. Play them there or use a player such as VLC; the built-in Music app imports MP3s only through a computer.
- Windows and Mac: in the Downloads folder; drag them into your music app.
Limits worth knowing
- 50 songs per visitor per day keeps the service free and fast.
- Public content only: private playlists stay private.
- Podcasts and audiobooks aren’t supported.
