How to Share a Facebook Video on WhatsApp (Link or File)
Link or file? Two ways to send a Facebook video on WhatsApp, how to keep it sharp, and which to choose.

Found a funny Reel or a useful video on Facebook and want to send it to family on WhatsApp? You have two options: share the link, or send the video file itself. Each has advantages. Here is how to do both, and which to choose.
Option 1: share the link (quickest, always fine)
- On the video or Reel, tap Share.
- Choose WhatsApp from the list (or Copy link and paste it into a chat).
- Pick the chat and send.
The recipient taps the link and watches on Facebook. This is the most respectful way to share: the creator gets the view, and the video stays where its owner can update or remove it.
Downside: the recipient needs data and may be asked to open the Facebook app or log in, and the link stops working if the video is deleted.
Option 2: send the video file
Sending the file means the video plays right inside WhatsApp, with no Facebook needed.
- Copy the video’s link on Facebook (Share → Copy link).
- Open FB Reels Downloader, tap Paste, then Download.
- Choose SD for a small file that sends quickly, or HD for better quality.
- In WhatsApp, open the chat, tap the attachment button (📎 or +), choose Gallery or Photos & videos and pick the video.
On iPhone, move the downloaded video into Photos first (in Files, tap it, then Share → Save Video) so it appears in WhatsApp’s picker.
Keeping quality in WhatsApp
WhatsApp compresses videos to save data, so a sharp video can arrive looking soft. To keep it sharp:
- tap the HD button before sending, if your WhatsApp shows one;
- or send it as a document (📎 → Document) so WhatsApp doesn’t compress it at all; the recipient then taps the file to play it.
WhatsApp limits file sizes, so long videos may need to be trimmed or sent as a link. See how to trim a video for free.
Sending to WhatsApp Status
To post a video to your Status, WhatsApp trims it to short segments automatically. Keep in mind that a Status is visible to many contacts at once, which is closer to republishing. Only post videos you made or have permission to share.
Which should you choose?
| Situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| Quick share with someone who uses Facebook | Link |
| Family member without Facebook | File (SD) |
| Slow or expensive data for the recipient | File (SD) |
| Video you want to keep forever | File (HD) |
| Your own video | Either, it’s yours |
Be fair to the creator
Sending a funny Reel to a friend in a private chat is everyday sharing. Uploading someone else’s video to your own Page, channel or a big group is republishing, and needs permission. When in doubt, send the link. The tool site explains more in Is it legal to download Facebook Reels?
